The Psychological And Pedagogical Significance Of Motivation In The Development Of Young Football Players
Schlagwörter:

This article examines the role of motivation in the psychological, pedagogical and sporting development of young football players. It conceptualises motivation as a dynamic process that influences participation, effort, persistence, learning behaviour and responses to competitive pressure. A narrative review of established literature on self-determination theory, achievement motivation and athlete development was undertaken. The reviewed literature indicates that sustained engagement is more likely when young players experience autonomy, competence, relatedness, meaningful goals and constructive feedback. By contrast, excessive reliance on punishment, public comparison and outcome-only evaluation may undermine enjoyment and long-term commitment. The article argues that motivation should be treated as an integral component of football coaching rather than as a temporary means of improving performance. Practical implications are outlined for coaches, youth academies and physical education specialists
